9/27/2024 India (International Christian Concern) — After silently suffering through years of abuse for her decision to leave Hinduism to follow Jesus, Navya found a second reason to leave her husband.
The 26-year-old mother of two learned that her husband had secretly married another woman in their village in India. Navya divorced her husband, took her children, and moved in with her elderly parents. She suddenly found herself as the sole provider for five people. And, once again, she was caught in the generational cycle of poverty she had thought marriage would rescue her from.
Navya took a job at a local medical clinic to provide for her children and parents. The demanding job only paid her the equivalent of $48 a month. One day, Navya saw a way out of the cycle of poverty that persecution had pushed her back into: International Christian Concern’s Generation Transformation program.
Through the program, which helps young, persecuted Christians obtain training for dignified employment so they can achieve financial stability, Navya received a scholarship to enroll in nursing school. She now works the night shift at the clinic to continue providing for her family while she’s in school.
Once she graduates from nursing school, Navya will be able to earn five times more than she’s earning now — and she’ll be able to give her children a life she once thought was unimaginable.
“I am grateful for the Generation Transformation program, without which I wouldn’t have joined the nursing course,” Navya said. “I am looking forward to completing the course and providing for my family.”
